How can the Word become flesh? I asked God as a serious Christian who had just re-dedicated my life to God. Ever since that time, I became serious in studying God’s Word. It was the first time I dug deeply into His Word. As I read John 1:14, God helped me to see that the Word is another name for Jesus. Jesus fulfilled the law and was without sin. The Bible declares the Lordship of Christ from front to back. As the Word, Jesus helps us to understand through the Holy Spirit.
MEMORY VERSE
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14, NIV).
WHAT’S IN A WORD?
Word…
“‘The Personal Word,’ a title of the Son of God…His distinct and superfinite Personality…His relation in the Godhead…His deity…the reality and totality of His human nature, and His glory” (Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words).
HIDDEN GEMS
Jesus is indeed the Word. The Old Testament is filled with prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The Gospels record the accounts of Jesus while here on earth. The remaining New Testament describes the words inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is indeed God-breathed.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” (John 1:1-3, NIV).
Read John 1:1-3. Who was in the beginning?
Who was with God?
Who was God?
Who was with God in the beginning?
Who made all things?
Jesus was with God in the beginning of time. Jesus is the Word. Jesus made all things. Jesus is the Son of God, who takes away the sins of the world.
“Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work” (John 14:10, NIV).
Read John 14:10. Who is in the Father?
Who is in Christ?
Who does not speak on His own authority?
Who lives in Jesus?
Who is doing Christ’s work?
Jesus and the Father are one, as part of the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. While on earth, Jesus relied only upon the authority of His Father. Jesus did His work relying upon God Who was guiding and directing His steps.
“For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me” (John 17:8, NIV).
Read John 17:8. Who did Jesus give the words His Father gave me?
What did the disciples do with these words?
What did the disciples do with certainty?
What did the disciples believe?
This verse is part of the prayer Jesus gave for His disciples. Jesus wanted the Father to bless and protect them from the evil one. The disciples believed in Jesus and wanted to further the Kingdom of God.
